prepare to be at the centre of everything

With the best mix of urban and rural life, and its proximity to London and the Southwest, Wycombe is an ideal spot to live and work. Spanning an area of 125 square miles, our catchments include the main towns of High Wycombe, Marlow and Princes Risborough, surrounded by green villages in the Chilterns of Buckinghamshire. The District has excellent communication links and it is close to the M40 and the M25, with a fast and frequent railway to London and Birmingham.

72% of the area is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and 48% is within the Metropolitan Green Belt. There are around 1200 listed buildings and 60 conservation areas. The area is predominantly rural and environmentally well protected. This has resulted in more intensive redevelopment in urban areas.

Around 164,000 people live in the area making it the fourth largest District Council in England. 80% live in urban areas, covering 14% of the area.

Prepare to be better at what you do
At Wycombe, the investment we’ve made into our people isn’t just so we can have a fancy certificate, it’s so we can ensure that our people enjoy the best possible experience at work. It means that every single person will be trained and developed - and in turn this means that we all get the opportunity to make improvements.

Prepare to be impressed
Rated as a ‘Good’ Council in the recent CPA target review (Central Government Assessment) we’re only two points away from an ‘excellent’ rating. We’re committed to getting to the top and with the right blend of new skills, and the right people, we’ll get there sooner rather than later. Our achievements make for impressive reading:

  • 22 Charter Marks - service excellence awards - more than any other District Council.
  • Investor in People accreditation since 1993 - the third District Council in the Country to gain this award.
  • The first District Council to achieve Level 4 of the CRE’s 5 level equalities standard (Commission for Racial Equality).
  • We have applied for Beacon Council status in promoting Racial Equality.

We treat everyone fairly and with respect, we listen to and learn from our people, and we provide training and development to give everyone the chance to perform their job well, and meet their true potential. Our people strategy ensures we do this.
